Brass was the original butt plate material for the No4 rifle, found on early production and post war production rifles. Interchangeable for steel or alloy (Mazak) versions within the Commonwealth rebuild program - if the butt stock overlapped a tight fitting butt plate then it was a serviceable rifle. The NOS brass examples typically 1950's Fazakerley stamps / marks on the back side. Alloy (Mazak) a WW2 contingent metal to relieve demand and tocks of brass. Correct for many BSA, Maltby and other ww2 production rifles. The fabricated butt stock sling swivel was another WW2 material / manufacturing expedient and a favorite of the Armorers and users of No4Mk1T Sniper rifles at it is a little roomier for the 1907 pattern leather sling to pass through. Used Butt Plate screws will be good to re-use with wear to the exposed face - clean up with a file / sand and blue to requirements (best condition sold first, paired as close as they can be). Reshape the slot as necessary. Install with Vaseline / petroleum jelly. Please feel free to ask any questions and check out my other Lee Enfield items.
