Books are very large and heavy 13" X 14" X 3".John Guille Millais (1865-1931), son of Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millais, was a wildlife artist known for the exactness of his illustrations. This work features detailed illustrations of an enormous range of mammals, from dormice to whales. (Millais in fact spent time with an Atlantic whaling fleet studying the latter.) Though some of the illustrations are vaguely macabre, depicting furs and skins, most are lively and charming.
